Infection Preventionists: Deadline Extended to Aug. 30 for Specialized Certificate Training Program

Posted on August 28, 2019 by Sue Boyd

The deadline to register for the Infection Preventionist certificate program, Effectiveness and Core Components for Infection Prevention in SNFs, has been extended to Aug. 30. This program, which takes place Sept. 4 and 5, will help care centers meet the new Infection Preventionist specialized training under the Requirements of Participation that will take effect in three months.

A robust and successful infection control program requires thoughtfully designed and well-operating pieces—from staying up-to date on changing best practices, reducing hospital readmissions, antibiotic stewardship, physician engagement, immunization planning and tracking, and comprehensive clinical surveillance.

Germs are always changing, so the infection preventionist will be left behind quickly if education isn’t ongoing. This certificate program provides the knowledge and strategies to build a sustainable and robust program. Find full details and registration here.

Don’t Shortchange Time and Resources

With the latest updates to the State Operations manual and Phase 3 of the Requirements of Participation, your Infection Preventionist must have specialized education, in-depth knowledge of infection control practices based on up-to-date evidence-based practice, and enough time and resources to be responsible

While the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a change to the current hourly requirements for the infection preventionist position in the Requirements for Long-Term Care Facilities: Regulatory Provisions to Promote Efficiency, and Transparency Proposed Rule, it does not want to change the implementation timeline for the infection preventionist requirements -- making this training all the more important for your setting!
