HUD Urged to Release Millions Earmarked for Affordable Housing for Older Adults

LeadingAge has called upon the U.S. Housing & Urban Development Department (HUD) to release the $50 million for the Section 202 Housing for the Elderly program and remaining $200 million of Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance funds.  

Despite receiving these emergency funds and authority to allocate them from Congress in late March, HUD has failed to release the funding. In testimony before a Senate Committee, HUD Secretary Ben Carlson initially said the funds would be allocated by October 1 but, after pressure from Senators, he indicated the funds would be distributed as quickly as possible.
