A new study by the Minnesota Center for Rural Policy and Development was released last week, highlighting the dwindling access to nursing home care for older adults in rural Minnesota.

Yesterday, the Long-Term Care Imperative launched a public messaging campaign urging Governor Walz to stop the Nursing Home Workforce Standards Board’s Holiday Pay Rule, which would take effect Jan. 1, 2025. The Nursing Home Workforce Standards Board (NHWSB), an unelected body created by the 2023 Legislature, has the power to create rules related to the pay of nursing home workers and other working conditions.

The Legislative Task Force on Aging met on Tuesday, October 29. They first heard testimony from officials with Pennsylvania’s Department on Aging before giving an overview of the recommendation to create a Minnesota Department on Aging.
