Julie Fuchs, an LPN with Belgrade Nursing Home, was named Caregiver of the Year at last week’s LeadingAge Minnesota Institute & Expo.  

The Minnesota Legislature is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and aging services providers have a lot at stake. LeadingAge Minnesota hosted an interactive legislative session preview webinar for members in January. Members who were unable to join us can now access the webinar. 

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) recently announced that providers must bill each date of service on a separate line for all Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) claims submitted starting March 5, 2018.

Shortly after signing the new budget deal approved by Congress, President Donald Trump released his initial budget request for fiscal year 2019. It features $1.4 trillion in Medicaid cuts over the next decade and brings back the per capita caps and block grant proposal we successfully defeated last year. 

State Senators are holding a series of listening sessions focused on aging and long-term care issues across Minnesota throughout February and April. The listening sessions, hosted by Senator Karin Housley (R-St. Mary’s Point), chair of the Senate Aging and Long-Term Care Policy Committee, are designed to be a venue for vulnerable Minnesotans and their families to share their stories. 

President Donald Trump last week signed a $320 billion budget agreement and stop-gap funding through March 23 that ended a blink-and-you-might-have-missed-it government shutdown. There is some good news and bad news for aging services providers:
